Hi all, i need some of you to answer something for me,
I might be able to get my mitts on a hardtop 413, but i was wondering if i do, i would like to take out the engine and gearbox out and put in my spare 410 engine & box into it, now is this a simple swap or would i need to adapt or change anything ?
Also i would plan on making it into a pick-up ,so i will be using Gary the grinder.
Any help/ info etc would be great.

I am not sure if the engine mounts will be in the correct place so they may need moving or modding, you would want the 410 t-case in or the gearing would be all wrong. The 413 radiator is larger than the 410 so it would run abit cooler, assuming all the pipes are the same diameter and hook up ok (but im prity sure they are)
As for making it into a pick up, its a ladder chassis so no strength would be lost, just measure twice and cut one, but im sure you already knew that!

Cheers Dan,
I forgot about the T-Box, then i would either have to sorce one ,or keep it as it is, and just convert it into a pick-up.
Oh yes, measure many times if need be, and cut once.
I wonder if anyone here has done that to any of there rigs ?

Hi Dom
As Dan said the engine would need 1 of the mounts moving (passenger I think) Apart from that it should all slot togeather to make a runner.

elongate the holes on passengerr side engine mount it will fit fine,
you will get a way with a 13 t box but the torque will be low. it may strugel but the 10 gear box is a lower rash than a 13 so it may cope with it. dont no meany pepole how have down sized,
im running a 1.6lump with a 5 speed 1.3box with a 1.0 t box.
when you say pic up do you mean move the back door an cut the roof down?
or just cut it off like a soft top??
if so the now bed part off your anus is thin an flimsy look at a soft top there is a box running round the edge to keep is shape an for putting your roof on an the odd support off the wheel arch you wont have this. ok you dont need a roof but you need it to hold is shape.
an wot ya guna do with the hole where the back door was?
i wood pic up a 1.0 soft top useing the tin top as a doner.
dont mean to be rude but if it falls through for you is there any chance i can get my durty mits on the tin top.
as i wanna pic up my soft top a use the rest to make a nuther soft top as i have a body ready to go.

Thanks everyone for your replys,
If i do get the Hardtop 413, i would like to cut off about 6inches from the rear door and weld it up behind the front seats to turn it into a pick-up cab.
And i would use a spare soft top door that i have ,to put in place of where the original rear door .
Not sure yet on the engine,gearbox,t-box plan, its just a thought, but i like to see how it is when i get to speak to the farmer that has it, i know he doesnt use it anymore.
Urbanzook, Sorry pal , its a long, long ,long drive away from you matey, its in Ireland. And finding SJ's here is fooking hard to come by, if i get it, its gonna be my toy to experiment with, cause i dont wanna ruin my soft-top 410.
Please keep up with any more ideas guys, i let you know if i do get my grubby mitts on it.
