Hello there! It would seem that my 410 is really smokey on startup :( it's fine when it's warmed up an runs well but the White smoke doesn't look good and the petrol exhausty smell is bad warm engine or cold. I see the rocker gasket has a little leak but I assume it's more than that that'll need looking at.
Any ideas?!

Okay, I'm just going to bouce words off the top of my head to see if that helps.
Gaskets, filters, valves, seals, cracks/splits
I do remember once with my mum's Discovery that the Head cracked, and water was getting into the cylinders, which caused white smoke and overheating, and the same thing happened a couple of years later, but the head gasket had gone.

the oil is clean, no water in there and it doesnt overheat so im hoping its something not as bad as headgasket or worse

look..... all sj's are smokey on start up, there was a thread on here a while back and it said something about the vavle stem seals not been design to 'modern' standards, I'd say don't worry about it! mine smokes alot on start up too, but as long as it runs clear and smoke free when warm its not really a problem
only thing... like mr. weird said about the head gasket just keep a check on your oil filler cap and make sure there is no mayo in there, as it usually shows a head gasket going

typical 410 you've got there then
it will 9/10 times be the valve stem oil seals as luke says!
