Cutting on dual carriage way

Hi Guys,

Am new to the board and to SJ's. I have a 1986 SJ413.

Car runs like a dream around town and off road. Moment I go on dual carriageway it will cut at 50mph ish. Leave 5 mins and it will restart but doesnt like dual carriageways. Which is limiting the distance I can drive.

I think it is fuel pressure possibly blocked tank breather. Do you know of ay faults?

Alex

Sounds like carb freezing to me, suzukis are prone to it in colder weather and at higher speeds!
Is it running the standard carb & air box? if so there should be a small leaver on the front of the air box to open up the hot air feed, Which providing it is still there should be attached to a pipe that runs over to the top of the exhaust manifold.

hope this helps.

Nope has got a snorkely on it. But that would make sense. I will see what I can knock up as there is the pipe that comes up off exhaust manifold for the standard airbox. I might be able to direct some warmer air to the carb.

When I spray wd40 on the carb it runs sweet as you like again.

Standard, but it runs fine everywhere except on motorways.

sounds like is freezing. You wanna put your hot air feed in. Sound more like it if you wd it an it works.

what you could do is to put a standard air box back on but seal it up with lots of silicone and then run the snorkel from the air box. I just use a rubber glove and a zip tie to seal off the hot air feed intake! then when you know you are going to be driving motorways etc take the glove off and connect the hot air feed.

It is fuel related. Check to see that you fuel filter/s are clean. It is best to replace it/them. The SJ has a single fuel filter mounted on the driver side near the rear wheel. I have used plurals above because mine was fitted with a grand total of three to make sure that no crud got into the carb. I managed to find two of them, and had similar problems to those you describe. Eventually I found the third one which was full of crap and limiting the flow of fuel. Changed it and everything worked fine after that.

Thanks for the input guys. Will try new fuel filter as routing the hot air feed seems to have done nothing.

I need to do new rear wheels cylinders first tho :|
