Im hopefully going to be putting my vitara engine into the SJ at the weekend but have a couple of questions.
Do i need to put the sump from my 1.3 on it? If so is it just a staight swap??
Also will the starter from my 1.3 fit straight on, or will i have to buy a vitara one?
Cheers.

Hi You do not need to change the sump. How much lift do you have?
If you do decide to swap sumps then you will need to modify the oil pick up.
Starters, both sj and vitara ones are the same. You will need a skinny starter if you want the bolt on solution.
You can use the fat starter... but you have to grind the block away... and im a bit heavy handed with the old grinder...

Cheers Henry. I have add a leafs so probably about 2" of lift, i would rather not change the sump if i dont have to.
With the starter, how do i know if it is a slim starter or not? Did some modals come with a skinny starter and some not?? Id rather not have to grind the block down. Thats just asking for trouble

You should be ok then and not need to change the sump.
What make are the starters? Mitshubishi are fat along with others. You need a vaelo or bosh.
This should show the difference.
Top vaelo
Bottom Mitshubishi

imho i would move the bump stops my 1.6 has a dented sump (i was running 3" lift shackles now have add a leaf+reversal kit) and it will extend the life of your springs

All of my sumps have been dented but that will not cause any problems.
bump stops should be extended to stopp excessive spring ware/damage.

Not sure what make my starter is but looking at the pictures i think i have the fat one. Are the skinny ones easy enough to get hold of?
The bump stops are sorted, i extended them when i put the add-a-leafs on.
Cheers.

Not really. there are a sought after starter.
I bought one reconditioned for £30. Keep it as a spare. I have a vaelo in the shed but the magnets are smashed in it.
The only one i can find on the bay.. (bosh)
