:welcome: to the forum matey!

Body lifts are defo the cheapest option but you can't beat a good set of lift springs! (also avoid lift shackles at all costs!)
have a look in the DIY section on the homepage for one way to do a bodylift or the other option is to buy a kit, as long as you don't go higher than 2" you shouldn't need to mod anything.

2" is the best way iv dun a 2 an a 3 an the time taken to do the 3 was 3x that off the 2" body lift. more messing round with bits.
is the best way to get bigger off road wheels on an with out bashing the body up. an is cheep £100/150 look on ebay.
the hard part off the kit to get if you make it your self is captive bolts. they will cost you all most as much as the kit.
unless you go with the diy way. an weld bolts in.
then get a spring lift if you can.
with a body lift you get more room under the hood so you can fit a 1.6 easily.
more room between body an chasse easy access for repers.

ive gotta go with scottie on this on. I aint looked back since i got my springs. The problem with the body lift is you dont get any extra clearance on the transfer box in the middle wheras the lift springs make the transfer box alot higher than the diffs and the increased curve in the springs reduces the shackels grounding problem abit.

I know that this post is getting on a bit now but if you've not spent any money yet, my mate recently bought new springs from KAP and they are soooooo comfortable over the couple of sets of springs I have had on ours so far. They lift well, articulate well and don't sag.

So there's my recommendation.
