hey all

just got myself an sj413 samurai, great car, its been lifted,

has a KAP fitted roll cage, big tyres etc; lightly modified, ready for some basic offroading..

Anyway, i was driving along and my friend was convinced we had no grip in the frost

so i slammed on the brakes to show him

how much grip we had. but i braked a bit too hard, and we had too much grip so the

the front axle span forward in the u-clamps and sheared the tacks holding it solid.

the prop to the front diff took a bit of a battering as we slowed down over a distance of about 20 yards

I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them, and if they had any

other problems created by doing this?

a bar to the steering is bent, and i can imagine i may have wasted an oil seal or two along the way

any help or advice appreciated

j

Sounds like its down to poor maintenance. I would get it off, straighten steering, and check steering box. Following this a full service with bushes ect.

Is it SPUA or SPOA?

cheers! its not at home at the minute my uncles having a look at it as he access to a garage, and hes gonna do the basic stuff, but ill get some photos up asap

im more worried about any damage that could have happened back at the transfer box etc, due to the shock load.

the front prop buckled at the front UJ connecting it to the front diff, and this is what took the brunt of the force as we

slowed down

cheers

Welcome to the forum.

It sounds like whoever did the spring over conversion didn't have a clue what he was doing. The spring perches should be fully welded, not just tacked on. I would check the rear perches too before it happens on the back

Were you in 2wd or 4 at the time? If 4wd and the front prop broke you might have got lucky and not damaged the tbox, they are pretty strong on sjs.
If 2wd then you won't have to worry at all as the drive is completely disconnected at the tbox.

Ah i get it now. Like scott said, should be well welded on, not tacked! Thank god it didnt happen while cruising down the motorway and there was a pile up :loseangel:

Get some pics up and if that is what has happened to the front axle, id be going over the truck with a fine tooth comb!
