rock lobster information

Hi all,
I'm doing a rock lobster box build at the minute, and was wondering if anyone who has one in their sj could let me know how they get on with it.
My mechanic mate who thinks he's a bit of a know it all, reckons that its a waste of time and that it would be rubbish in muddy conditions, and no need for it for climbing and going down banks as you can just tap your brakes.
Personally I think hes a tw@ lol, but would like to hear peoples opinions who have one fitted.

Best mod i have on my sj after recovery points!
Do not tap the brakes, you will slide. select 1L and take all feet off. If you have the tools, gears to do it, get it done!

does your mate drive offroad?
if you run larger tyres its almost essential to correct your gearing and give you some engine braking back.
You shouldn't touch the brakes on steep, slippery decents offroad as it can get you in more trouble than good so you want the engine to brake for you, one thing that suzukis don't do to well on stock size tyres let alone larger ones.
Let's just say I used to run 4:1(ish) low box 4.11:1 diffs and 33s I still found that the engine braking wasn't enough on some decents so I've got a rocklobster to add to the dual tbox to drop the gears even more.
As for climbs you will never use 3rd or 4th low on a standard tbox so why not make them pretty much the same as 1st and 2nd with a rocklobster.
I think your mate needs a few offroad driving lessons

I think what he was trying to say to me as that it would be pointless in muddy slippy climbs and conditions

Some situations require a bit of speed, you can still get this with the RL as 345 on the RL are the same as 123 on a standard sammy box.
The two lower gears will be so usefull. I tend to run in 2nd all the time and 1st when needed. And im running 31s

What size Tyres are you running matey? You'll find that 99% of people who have fitted a lobster to their sjs say that its one of the best mods you can do.
Surely that says something

awesome, i'm hoping I can prove him wrong once its done.
The only downfall I can see is reverse is gonna be low, for trying to get out of deep mud

Just knock it into high if it is
that's one off the reasons I love my dual tboxes. 4 reverse ratios
