Time to own up

I binned it.

I was driving home from a friend's house on Saturday evening, went 'round a right-left s-bend, and clipped the inside curb on the left.

My truck came a long way over on two wheels, but luckily I instinctively spun the wheel to the right as fast as possivbe and got back on four wheels, but before I could get my wits about me I crashed through a fence, narrowly missed the house and jerked it left through the fence again.

I've never really known what fear was before. And after I'd stopped shaking and surveyed the damage I couldn't believe my eyes. The fence was in smitherenes, I'd managed to haul a concrete foundation for a fence post out of the ground, snap three 3 and 1/2 inch posts as well, and dug a foot deep rut in the flower bed.

Man did I get lucky. The bullbar took a serious pounding, and is very badly twised and bent. The grills across the headlights were pressed against by the bullbar and so the front of the grill and wings is dented, but other than that it's just scratches and a broken wing indicator cover.

If I hadn't had the bullbar I think I'd have lost the radiator or worse totalled the car completely. I'm also glad it didn't roll or hit the house.

Now I've just got to replace the fence. :|

Sorry to hear that mate :(

Glad your truck is sort of ok though, and that YOU MISSED THE HOUSE! :D

A new bullbar won't be too hard to acquire, make sure you have a look at the mounting points on the chassis and make sure thats all ok

You should be glad you're in an SJ or a 4x4 of some sort. An SJ will plow through a fence no problem, try it again in a fiesta!!!

Maybe put some wheel spacers on, help to keep all your wheels on the ground ;)

My first crash was a metro scraping alongside a brick wall and I was crapping myself lol
Take it as a learning experience :)

Uh oh  :crutches: . Thats not good news. Dont worry to much it happens to the best of us. At least your ok and the sj can be repaired. You can only learn from it.

Any pics?

Don't worry, I think we all go through a 'growing up' stage when we pass our tests, Its just a coming of age thing. Just don't make a habit of it..... And your poor SJ don't go ruining it before you sell it to me!

Yeah, at least it was only the fence and bullbar that suffered. The damage is only cosmetic mostly. I drove home an hour or so later. I think I'm going to need new mounts as well as the bullbar, though the chassis where the mounts attatch seems fine too. I'll buff out the dents as best I can.

I'm glad it's only going to be a couple of hundred quid for a fence and a driver improvement seminar instead of three points, a fine and a massive insurance premium. :|

I'll get some pics up soon, though there's not much to look now.

There tough little things them SJs. I remember when me n my dad rolled ours at rogerley quarry. Its was just earth, sky, earth, sky. Not exactly a pleasant experience. Important thing is everyones ok (thats the most important). And two is damage is only superficial and will give u sommit to do thru the holidays instead of being out terrorizing pensioners and drinking in the park.

Do youths still do that? The drinking bit not the terrorizing. Usually some sort of meths with a slight tinge of apple.
