I have recently fitted a 413 engine into my 410. i have used the 413's radiator, according to the temperature gauge after about a couple of miles it is showing hot. I have removed the thermostat to eliminate any problems in that area. How ever there is little pressure when releasing radiator cap ( with no boiling over) and the water temperature only appears to be at normal operating temperature (no hotter than a cup of tea) any suggestions on what the problem might be.

it sounds like the thermostat in the new engine doesn't match up with the temperature gauge in your dash, why don't you use the thermostat sender from your old engine and see how it goes?

The temperature sender units give out different values (resistances) so needs the correct gauge to match. As said swapping the senders is the easiest fix, assuming they are the same fitting/thread. That I don't know

I dont think they are the same fitting between the 1.3 and 970cc. they aren't between the 1.6 and 970 and i presume the 1.6 and 1.3 use the same size sender?

you will need to either buy an aftermarket temp guage, a fitting like this http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Motorspor ... /1773/5863" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (im not sure what the thread size is though) or make your own adapter like in the link like i did using a correct size nut, a bit of tube and a welder

thanks for that ScottieJ did you put that in the top hose or into the thermostat housing & did you just use a normal bit of straight pipe?

It was just an old bit of coolant tube from something its not pretty but did the trick, I think the thread size you need is m16x1.5 same as a *cough cough* land rover wheel nut/handbrake cable.

I added an earth as well just to be sure and it is fitted in the top hose
