Does it happen in 2 or 4 wheel drive or both?
Have you tried taking the rear prop off and driving in 4wd?

i happens in 2wd and 4wd, i will try it with the prop out, and it sounds alot more serious than a bearing

I presume you checked the rear wheel bearings when you took the diff out? They can make some nasty noises if they have seized or collapsed.
Could be a dry uj on the rear prop, you might not be able to tell until you take the prop off.

sounds more serious than a bearing..........
both bearings
but seriously ive had both go at the same time and that sounded bad and was undiagnosable by sitting in the back whilst out for a drive

The best way to tell with rear wheel bearings is to jack the wheel up, hold the tyre at the top and bottom and give it a wobble, I wouldn't worry if you can feel small amount of movement but if its gone there will be quite a bit, also give the wheel a spin while its In the air and you'll hear it if its gone.

just take the brake drum off then undo the 4 nuts that hold the back plate on, get a slide hammer on the end of the half shaft and tap it out, i was lucky i got the bearing thru the hole of the back plate so i could leave all the breaks connected.
