Im in love, i have found a whole other use for the sj!


It drives well, i am shocked, can keep up with traffic, however 5th is more of an over drive! My speakers have packed up, its running rich, and i need to drop the tbox out to do some welding to the outrigger from the chassis.


The sheep on the bonnet has caused some attention in the village


So a few more jobs, and a few more miles on the clock to get my trust up with it, and i might venture on a long distance journey

I was surprised too when I first drove mine, after what people said about them being prone to rolling very easily, I had to clip a curb on a tight left hander to get it up on two wheels, and I still managed to keep it the right way up.

If I work the old girl hard, I can surprise a few folks at how quick she gets up to 30 mph, but after that she starts to bog down in the ratios. 5th gear, if you're luck enough to have one, IS an overdrive. If you look up the ratios, 5th spins the output shaft faster than the input shaft. Mine handles great, I have to say. For being so high off the road, I feel planted all the time, unlike in mum's Discovery, which feels like a boat. It wallows around, the steering's unresponsive and lacks any kind of feeling or feedback from the road (I dislike power-steering basically), the throttle response isn't great, but it is a diesel so maybe that's unfair.

You shouldn't often use the terms "diesel" and "throttle response" in the same sentences

(p.s. hate diesel, unless specifically for economy)

Yep I love my SJ as a daily drive, they are brilliant fun, I think they make good city cars as well because they are so small you can fit them into so tiny parking spaces.

And Ed for any muppet that says they are easy to roll then they have obviously never driven one and they are an idiot.

Haters gonna hate. Looks like CU decided they didn't like the Suzuki, so deliberately slandered it. Probably because it wasn't a Dodge, Chevy or Ford.

Ever driven a tractor puller? more responsive that a 2 stroke crosser! (well the few i have ridden anyway)

Spent all day today doing the tbox mount, re bent the gear stick so it can get into 4 low with the gaytor, weakened it down, but i think a bit much, ill give it 1/8th of a turn back and see how we get!

i use mine as an everyday car and it surprise's people all the time i do several long distance drives in it through out the year not the most comfortable i'll admit

The Land Rover's better if you're doing a long trip or towing, but for normal driving, especially if you drive because you enjoy it then the SJ is a far cry better than a Landie, and more fun than a lot of popular sports cars, even if it is slower.

If I had all the money in the world (and more skill/experience), I'd get myself a Samurai LWB Dropside and shoehorn a 2 litre Carlton engine into it. Tough as old boots, plenty of spares still available, the Carlton version was tuned for a bit more torque that the normal version (which is why lots of folks put the Carlton ECUs into the Cavaliers and Astras) and a pokey 136bhp. An SJ could handle that umph, but it'd be a lot more go under the pedal, not that I don't like my li'l F10A, but 45bhp and 4 gears just isn't enough sometimes, like when you've got a Civic fucking you around in the middle of the night.

Also, after watching that video and thinking a bit, I know a LOT of hot hatches that can't do that because they understeer too much.

Henry - Yeah there are exceptions, such as the diesel land speed record car thingy...

... but regular cars I much prefer petrol... unless it's a van
