I need more lights
I need more lights
The lights on the sj have never been good, always on full beam and still hard to see! I was on the bypas tonight and couldt see a bloody thing!
So im going to go for roof lights. Now my questions...
How have you mounted the bar?
Wiring?
Switched or just on full?
Bonnet glare? how bad is it?

Re: I need more lights
First thing to do is ditch those crappy p45t tungsten 40/45w bulbs for a set of p45t h4 halogen 55/60w bulbs. Whatever way you go wire the spots via a relay. The wiring does depend on whether yours is a jap or spanish version. Most people I know that have spots on the roof don't really use them as they glare to much (but they do look good). Also I think there illegal for road use but that's another matter! Setting them further back on the roof helps with the glare but looks rubbish. I have mine wired to come on with high beam but the choice is yours. I just have the pair of spots on the front with 55w bulbs which light up the road great (much better than my Grand Vitara with standard lights).

Re: I need more lights
never used mine on the road though , down country lanes i have though ill grab some pics tomorrow morning:
mounted the bar above the windscreen using to brackets thats screw into above the windscreen
(pic tomorrow)
wiring used trailer (cable 7 core) , and low voltage house hold cable as its designed for 12v and high current ,then each bulb has its own inline fuse
all run on seprate switches in the cab
bonnet glare i get a bit so im painting my bonnet matt black soon

Re: I need more lights
Yeah, bonnet glare is a big issue for mine ( which makes it harder to see!) As far as i know they are illegal for road use but I use mine to flash people! I can't help but think you might be better with spotlights on the front if you want more light!
Re: I need more lights
Roof lights aren't legal on road, what you want to do as well as better bulbs is to wire up your headlights in a similar way to what you would some spots using the normal power feed as the trigger so that you get a better voltage at the lights. I'll find a wiring diagram for you at lunch time when I'm not on my phone.

Re: I need more lights
I'm planning on putting more lights on mine... already upgraded the bulbs!
I dont like the idea of roof lights, mostly because I end up hitting the top of my windscreen on trees!
My plan is to mount some on the front (have to make sure they don't stick out of the winch bumper's protection!)
...then I'm going to bolt some lights to the scuttle panel... I may have to matt black the bonnet, but might be able to get away with just doing the middle bit of the bonnet

Re: I need more lights
I get the idea with the light, I've uprated to Brit art which are a lot better than sj. Problem with the front is I'm short of space ? Have to have a look might have to chop the front bumper a bit.

Stock @ the headlight
w/bl & w/r are the comon hot
red is high - go's back thru switch to ground
red/white is low - go's back thru switch to ground
here is how the typical 6024 ( 7" round headlight) is wired... ON THE FACTORY ZUK HARNESS THES WIRES ARE AS FOLLOWS
Left: low beam ie: red w/ white trace
Right: high beam ie: solid red
Center: Hot + ie: ether white w/ red trace or white w/ black trace depending on if looking at the l/r plug
and here is a wiring diagram for a relay harness.. And you can add a diode so that the Low beam saty on with the high beam
DIODE: radio shack pt# 276-1143 epoxy rectifier diode - rated 3a 200PIV - its rated for a 300a surge for 1/2 cycle way overkill for the couple miliamps the relays draw, but overkills good right? or there is this method, taking the power straight off the alternator, REMEMBER to use fuses and note that this diagram is for positively switched headlights so you'll need to adapt it to negative switched on the suzuki.

Re: I need more lights
First thing I did with my truck was fit H4 bulbs with a 45t fitting (Halfords if you can't get 'em elsewhere) and then spent a few drizzly/foggy evenings getting them properly adjusted and now they're pretty damn good.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
