My rear UJ decided to explode new years eve, ta a bloody lot. Is it ok just to use 4WD with no rear prop? (at least for a couple of days until the new UJ arrives!).
Cheers, Alex

As far as I know, yes, as all four wheel drive does is lock the front and rear props, so if the rear isn't there, you won't get transmission wind up.

You'll be fine, just don't dump the clutch or pull away aggressively.

yeah as said already you will be fine, and as you have already found out, it is a weird thing to drive, the wheel spins were legandary

I once saw a 'dig' for sale for an SJ, it bolted on to the t box and the rear drive shaft and had spleened sections & a collar that slid back and forth (controlled by a pivoted leve) Basicly it just disconnected the rear drive shaft so you could run front wheel drive, clever really but slightly pointless? (unless your your rear uj fails ;-) )

I always carry 12 and 13mm spanners in the zook anyway, normally if something breaks it's held on with 12s or 13s!!! lol
Front wheel drive is strange in an SJ... wheelspins very easily! ... I find the thing that worries me the most about it is getting understeer in an SJ!!!
Mine literally never understeers on the road when it's in RWD...

Mine either tracks beautifully or oversteers if I want it to. Such is the beauty of rear wheel drive. I hate FWD with a passion. Rear or all four are the only ways to go.
