Rear Light Cluster Replacement Ideas

Post by jerseyben » Mon Jan 09, 2012 7:17 pm

Hello Everyone.

I am stuck with a dilemma on my hands,

I have been De-Rusting my Sami and in the process removed my rear bumper and lights as i had no working break lights and no reverse light and no left indicator and not to mention the bumper was hanging by rust.

Looking forward i am not too keen to put another bumper back on and buy standard lights as this would cost a bit and also i was for ever bashing them when off road.

i have come up with the idea of either buying a length of steel and welding it in place of the old bumper and buying after market cheep rear cluster lights and re wiring them in, or buying a tailor board where the lights are all pre-fitted and wired and then chopping the cable and finding out which wire does what and connecting them up and fit this in place of the bumper.

if you have any experience or any other ideas please feel free to share.

I would just make your own bumper out of suitable steel and fit whatever lights you like on the rear door

Loads to choose from, LED ones are nice but a bit expensive.

I have a nofearzuks (ebay) rear bumper... with forklift LED light clusters... work bloody well, but those clusters are £65 each!

You can get much cheaper LED light clusters though... more like £20-35 each :)

Hi Dude,

Same over here. Couple of tractor tracks in-between fields and a couple of small places but non are dedicated off-road places so always running the risk of being on someone else's property :( a friend of mine has a filed with a small loop track but only go there on events such as birthdays ect.

would be good to have somewhere set aside for us.

Hello everyone. got an update..

i decided to go with 2 standard rectangle light clusters and mount them on the back door.

Firstly I checked my previous connections where the lights were wired and my left side had side light and indicator but my right side didn't. tracked the right side being down to a fuse being blown. wired up the right hand lights and they are working fine. went to wire up the left side and I have got nothing. checked to see if that fuse had gone and it was fine. I am now confused as it was working perfectly.. relay is ticking as the side and front indicators work. but just no power to the back :(

Any ideas ?

Why are you mounting them on the back door?

Firstly you need a multi meter to be able to find where you have power and earth. If you dont have a multi meter then have a good close look at the back of the unit for any damaged wiring

Make sure youre 100% the bulbs are ok first and clean all the corrosion from the terminals.

You said both your rear sidelights and indicators werent working until you changed a fuse and it fixed the right side?
I would guess at either blown bulbs or damaged wiring for the other side

Scroll to the bottom of the page to see my lights after i had repaired them
