Buying a SJ410

Sorry to bother you all, I'm looking into buying a Suzuki SJ 410V (I really want one!) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/suzuki-sj-410 ... 3a6ef88d0d" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. I'm not to bad regarding basic maintenance but do you think this would be too much for myself as its got a gearbox problem or maybe the guy is wrong?

Any comments much appreciated.

Well it does come with a replacement gearbox. Providing its the right one and in good condition then thats one problem sorted out as changing gearbox is a simple bolt out and in job.
However it does appear to possibly need some welding doing. If this is the case then only you can answer if you feel your welding is good enoegh or if you are willing to pay a friend/garage to do the work.
Theres plenty of advice and help on here to help you through it all. But take your time buying one and make sure you see it properly before you bid so you understand exactly whats required. Good luck

its MOT'd till November and doesnt sound too bad at all.

if it was nearer me I'f have it!

These SJ's are just like Meccano kits, a few nuts and bolts hold everything together and very easy to work on.

Parts are still available and cheap enough too, even if you were to blow an engine for example, a new engine can be picked up for £100 and fitted in a few hours

Just look everywhere on the body for signs of bad rust

Smoke on start up, play in wheelbearings, transferbox outputs, diff flanges, UJs etc.

Just have a good look around and climb underneath for a good look and try and move anything you think shouldn't etc.

Best money you will spend in my opinion is take it to an MOT garage you know and ask them to MOT it. Best few quid you will ever spend. You can then use result as a barganing tool As I say only my opinion
