Stalling in tickover

Engine keeps cutting out when foot not on gas, any tips what I should be looking for??

Does the idle bob up and down and steadily get worse before it dies?

Yes but I undid the clips on the air box & gave the filter a shake. Then it sat in idle just fine but I am sure that wasn't the fix & it will happen again.

Well, mine used to do that. I've since adjusted the mixture to make it leaner so the engine doesn't get as much fuel and as yet it has stopped doing it.

Is it a 410 or a 413?
Cutting out from idle is a classic 1.3 aisin carb choke failing symptom

Might be worth looking at your choke mechanism to make sure its moving freely.

its a 413 is that an easy job I'm no grease monkey fitting the add a leaf was the first job I attempted on it.

It's a piece of cake. Adjusting the carb is just a case of turning two screws. Taking a carb to pieces is easy, just make sure you don't lose any bits. There are guides on the forum that show you haw to take them apart if you want to clean them up.

have you checked the wiring to the fuel stop solenoid?

Where about are the 2 screws that control idle speed I was gonna try that first. The haynes guide shows a picture but I can't seem to find them, does dying in tick over mean it's too rich?

One of them you should be able to reach. Theres the idle screw which is towards the bottom of the bulkhead side of the carb (as far as i can remember...)
You can't adjust the mixture screw without taking the carb off I dont think, or not without difficulty

I think the stalling is the mixture being too rich yes, the chokes are a bit funny.
When mine was going, it alternated between sometimes having a 3000rpm idle, and other times not idling at all.
