1.6 8v vit timing

Post by ianedwards » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:46 pm

Hi,

Whent up my parents to do a bit more on the sj only to find my dad fiddling with the engine,

Any way,

He's stripped the whole thing, and thought it was a good idea to remove the whole bottom pully to get the cover off, there for removing the timing belt and messing the lot up. :poke:

Then he removed the top pully,

I've seen the bottom pully is on a key way and the top is on a pin so they should go back ok,

Has any one got any idea how to set the timing back up properly, any help would be great.

Cheers

Ian

Get the cylinder closest to the front at tdc using a screwdriver through the plug hole or offering the cover up and using the marks. Then get the arrow on the cam pully to point vertically up. Refit belt and fire it up.

If the dizzy hasn't been fiddled with it should be fine.

Read the above link for setting up the timing.

As for the bottom crank pulley, make 200% sure you get it torqued back up properly as if it comes undone it will ruin your crank!

to be honest i don't know what he's done all together,

he could have messed with anything. put it like this, there is nothing on the engine at all, just the block and head and water pump. suppose im lucky he didn't decide to split it. lol ive got assume everything is wonky.

just taking that bottom pully off wont do any damage, will it ?

so ive got to get that bottom pully back on, line it up with the key way, and torque it up - i.e swing on it with a pole.

he did say it was tight. lol,

just taking it off wont do any damage, will it ?

i know he was only trying to help, but grrrrrrrrrr
