Hi, was wondering if anyone can tell me where the wire that is attached to my handbrake lever should go to, I know that is to operate the warning light on the dash, the light works when the ignition is on but not when the handbrake is up when the car is running. It is a black wire and it is about a foot long, would it just connect straight to the light on the dash or does it go somewhere else? The car is an F reg 1989 Suzuki SJ Samurai, it is the japanese model, hope someone can help me,
Cheers,
Dan

Re: Handbrake Wire
Does the handbrake switch also have a orange wire going to it. If so this black wire should go to a suitable earth point.

Re: Handbrake Wire
It should earth when the handbrake is in the up position, cable wise the 12v will run to your dash light, through it then to the handbrake switch, you should have 12v at the switch terminal until the handbrake is raised and the switch makes ( then you should have 0v there) and your dash light should be illuminated

Re: Handbrake Wire
Well the workshop manual shows a orange wire to the handbrake switch = ollocks with a capital B.
I had a look at mine today and its a black wire from the switch, which goes to a connector under the drivers seat/carpet. It then goes into a grommet in the inner sill.

Re: Handbrake Wire
Hi, yeah I found this out the hard way, for some reason I thought the wire went off under the passengers seat so when there was nothing there I assumed it was missing, so I took all the steering wheel, plastics and clocks out, I then followed the orange wire from the clocks, as it got down to the fuse box region of the bulkhead it had a connector and changed to a black wire and then went off into the sill and then out again under the drivers seat, and then I found the broken end of the wire under the carpet but at least it works now , cheers for the help,
Dan
