haven't tried the webber and probably never will since my current SU has never been serviced or rebuilt, was connected to a leaky adapter, had the wrong needle in it, had the wrong dashpot oil, never been tuned properly, and was covered in mud and still never missed a beat!
Even better now its fitted to the 1.6 on a modified manifold with the right needle, spring, and oil!

Is the cutting out on steep hills issues that bad. I have to drve a fair way to go off roading, so would it be worth a webber for the amount of road use. As for SU am I better buying and old one and reconditioning it or buying a new one? And where can I get on SU adapter.

Yeah the steep hill cutting out can be bad!
We drove up a massive hill once, and when we got to the top and my mate took his foot off the gas, it cut out straight away. It was quite a steep hill but still!
As a result we had to slowly, slowly back the SJ down the hill, with no engine power and no brakes.
Su every time for me!

Nikki carbs work pretty well, they are a sort of happy medium!!!
Although if its for off road use I would always prefer SU
