hi all im in need of some advice on importing things like has any one ever imported anything from the states??

i want to imoprt a lift kit for my zooki but worried about customs stinging me for import tax

i have imported big things and small things from the states and havent got charged import tax however i think a few members on he have, also recently i imported some felts from australia for my front axle and got stung twice by import tax once by the custom and again by dhl. i emailed the company i got the parts from the same with DHL and there was nothing that could be done about it!

What lift kit are you looking at ordering?

I got my YJ kit from rocky road and was charged £80 for import tax.

Yeah, I've ordered things from abroad before (america) sonetimes I've had to pay and other times I havn't, if I was you id budget for it & if it doesn't get charged your quids in

My dad brought some doors back from the US for his MK2 Astra (Pontiac GTO) and the import tax was more than he paid for the doors.

If you know someone who lives in the States they can send it to you as a gift...no taxes at all!

Even this is only to a preset amount. Last time I checked it was about 70 Dollars worth before tax/duty.

I received a gift that was declared as being worth $75 so I ended up paying tax and then as stated earlier the courier company charge you a admin fee for doing this. How kind of them .

So not strictly correct but some company's will send it as a gift to avoid taxes and may undervalue the product too. I wonder if sending items in more than one package would get around this. I believe the postage rates are pre-set weights (IE up to 10kg etc.) rather than the actual weight, so this may end up costly.

i had 3 packages via ups from utah it goes on value of item cost me just shy of £120 import duty once it arrived in uk.

basically customs hold it till you pay up but no real way of knowing till you get the bill
