So... the first item on my to do list...
I want to re-paint my fiberglass hardtop, its all flaking off leaving the white underneath showing up, standing out and looking ugly (guessing it was painted blue/grey over a white gel-coat?)
I want to just brush/roller it with matt black. Its already a textured surface, and with a bit of brush/roller texture and with the black being matt, it should look almost like a soft top (thats the plan anyway).
So my main question is... what paint should I use?
Anyone done this before?
Do you think just a good scrubbing with sandpaper and get the worst of the flakeyness off will do?
I really don't want to try stripping the whole thing...
Painting fiberglass hardtop...
Re: Painting fiberglass hardtop...
I brushed the lose paint off cleaned with thinners and painted mine black (was white) with tractor paint and a brush looked good

Re: Painting fiberglass hardtop...
My girlfriends hardtop has been sprayed by the previous owners. Looks brilliant.
Dunno what they did it with but looks like it was just very lightly sanded with fine paper first.

Re: Painting fiberglass hardtop...
I painted a mates hardtop last year, used some fine sandpaper, sprayed it in primer then satin black with a load of laquer on top. Still looks the pups now. Took about 4 hours all in and was well worth it.
If it ticks over...leave it
