Front axle issue in 4wd

When any lock is applied or when under any load or weight, the front wheel seems to knock or grind. Looking at it it seems to lock up and jump / judder

Could this be a problem with the locking hubs mechanism?

Not sure if both do it or not iv only seen the osf and sounds just like that side

Also do you need any gaskets or seals when stripping them down?

is this on tarmac or a loose surface? you should never use 4wd on tarmac!

Sounds like you have a CV joint on it's way out.

Na loose surface mate.

In fact I have heard it before on Tarmac in 2wd. I thought it was the wheel catching the body somewhere at first.

deffo sounds like a CV joint then. it will probably last quite a lot longer just avoid giving it too much power at full lock.

when i did my axle oil seal i used this guide

but that guide pretty much tells you how to get out a drive shaft :)

Bahhh you can skip so many steps from that guide.

Remove caliper
Image

Remove fwh cover if fitted & circlip or circlip and drive flange (as shown in pic)
Image

Use a spanner to undo these 4 bolts (without removing the hub as shown in this pic)
Image

Depending on the CVs fitted you might be able to remove it without taking off the knuckle

If CV doesn't come out the hole then remove kingpins and knuckle seal (all 12mm bolts)

Should take no longer than 30 mins to remove and re fit in reverse order ;)

Knuckle oil seals

Possibly bearings here and there if there worn?

CV grease yes
Knuckle oil seals No they do not need to replaced unless damaged
Free wheel hub gaskets Nah I just use instant gasket ;)
Possibly bearings here and there if there worn? Check for play before disassembly, If ok then No
