as most of you know ive got a custom ali petrol tank with feed, return and breather
alot of experts told me that i need a one valve to let the petrol gasses out etc
i got told to mount it upside down so i did as so all cushty anyways went out and the weekend got the sj not even at rolling point and petrol was pouring out of my breather pipe....
any ideas?]
this was the angle i was out and petrol was pouring at the breather which is inbetween the too seats the little mushroom thing

Is it a one-way valve or a proper fuel tank breather. A one way valve fitted that way would not allow air into the tank to replace the fuel used and would leak when on an angle. However fitted so as to allow air into the fuel tank should stop any leakage, but the tank could pressurise with heat/sun.
I don't know how proper breather valves work as they have 2 valves which allows air both ways but not any fluid
. They cost about £30 plus though.
Most valves are spring loaded but as they said fit it upside down maybe it is just a ball in a valve. If this was the case it would only seal shut if you where upside down

its the ball tight and yeah thats what i got told about the upside down thing... so when its upright in the truck it breathers , and when il rolls it seals shut....

Well at least I found out how they work. Not 2 valves like I thought but 2 balls
.

In the valve are two balls, one hollow plastic, and one stainless steel. If fuel enters the valve while the vehicle is cornering or braking, the hollow ball floats on the top of the fuel and moves to the top of the valve where it seals, so stopping fuel escaping.
If there is a roll over, and the vehicle ends up upside down, it is possible that the hollow ball might leave the seat and allow fuel to escape. The weight of the stainless ball keeps the hollow ball on its seat, and fuel cannot then escape.
