snorkel and roof.

hello,
just some quick questions, (although im sure they have already been asked, sorry bout that)
anyway im thinking of making a snorkel for my 410, and i wouldnt mind some ideas on how to do it. i think someone may have asked this here before, but i also wanted to know how to do the pipework in the engine bay.so i imagine it all has to be very waterproof otherwise this eliminates the purpose of a snorkle, so do you use the origional air box or use an inline filter, or not use a filter? so what is the best way to waterproof the intake system as i imagine the origional air box isnt very waterproof?

second question of the day....
im thinking of buying a hard top roof, but are these hard to fit? what holds them on? and can you put them on and off easily or is it more of a permanent thing?
thanks for all the help guys,
Joe

anyway, i probably wont be buying the roof now as the one i was looking at on ebay went for over £200! which is nearing what my car cost. im really surprised what it went for.

but those of you running snorkels do you use the original air box or do you do something else to make it more watertight? or is it not that important that its completely watertight?
cheers

joe

Just for the benefit of me being a bit think  ,am I right in thinking the pipe that comes of the air box and just seems to sit on the wing inside the engine that you just connect this up to a snorkel and that's it ??

and yea, i doo like my soft top roof aswell because i think it looks better, but mine doesn't have side windows which looks awsome but gets me down a bit when im driving it, coz its more like a van.
Mod: I've split this topic so that the gearbox question is now in the transmission section of the forum, this way it's easier for other people to find if they want the same info.

ive got some thick exhaust pipe from work to make a snorkel. i should be able to weld it into a nice shape but my only concern is the old exhaust dust inside, i should probably get rid of it so it dosnt suck into the engine? has anyone used exhaust before? whats the best way to do it? and whats the best shape to make it?

my guess is that its only put there to prevent water getting sucked in without actually having a snorkel.
