Sj410 converting to 5speed gearbox

Post by mk1joe » Fri Oct 12, 2012 8:37 pm

will i get a great advantage fitting a 5 speed gearbox to my sj410? id like better fuel economy and top speed but will it effect these massively? and are they not as well geared for off roading?
thanks for the help guys!

gearing is as near as makes no difference the same just with an added 5th for cruising.

should save fuel and i guess if the tyres are close to standard size it might increase the top speed a bit.

good luck finding a good one. if you find 2 let me know!

You might not get more top speed because of the lack of power from the 970cc but it will lower the rpm at higher speeds. 2nd to 4th are the same ratios in both gearboxes 1st is a tiny bit lower in the 5speed but by hardly anything.

When running 31s on my stock 410 I could never decide if it was worth it or not because of the lack of engine power but with smaller tyres I would say its definitely worth doing.

awsome! although im still undecided then, is it an easy fit? i assume all 5 speeds are from the santanas? so will it go straight in my 1985 410?
cheers

As your sj is an 85 it should have the later style 4speed I think so a 5 speed should just bolt straight up?

thanks guys, but il probably leave it for a while due to money, but mainly EFFORT. but your right it probably wouldn't effect top speed which is what i really wanted.
