Does anyone please have a ppicture of a rear diff before and after welding? Or just before? I've just removed my diff but cannot see where it would weld, looks a bit like an lsd would

If your sj is road going then I would not weld your diff, firstly it'll handle like shit
Secondly it'll eat tyres
And thirdly it's possibly illegal? and your insurance will be void if you have an accident and they realise its locked and not declared

I fitted a mini spool to my daily driver and love it - you get used to the handling - I dont find it rubs tyres away much more than normal - I rotate the wheels every 3 - 4000 miles and they have not shown any major signs of wear. Just drive it like you have a 40 trailer on the back and its fine

Nothing in that driftworks thread says anything about the legality of it in the UK, just about if it's an MOT fail or not, as the diff isn't part of the test as such how can it be a fail?
The MOT is just a general safety check it is completely different to road laws and construction and use regs.
I know they're illegal in Ireland but I'm going to contradict myself here and say although i've never seen any actual evidence whether it is legal or illegal..........but I'm gonna put my sensible head on and put it this way.
If you have your vehicle insured, the welded diff must be listed, if you crash and they find that you have a welded diff and haven't declared it your insurance is now void........>illegal
Now find and insurer who will happily insure a vehicle with a welded diff! It might take you a long time!
You'll find that most companies won't go near a vehicle with a welded diff.
So it might not actually be illegal but to make it legal could be a challenge and cost you a lot more for insurance.
