got me an ebay winning bid on a land rover winch bumper, ok so far, i know i will have to make new mounts to fit it to my vitara and have already part way there with a few ideas, but the bumper has a rounded tray for the bottom to take the winch drum, the only flat bit is at either end but there are no holes in the base at either end for a winch, (it looks like a winch was never fitted), and the tray is quite long so not simply a case of drilling new holes for my soon to be purchased winch, so my question is will i now need one of those universal winch mounts?

OR
should i just buy some 6mm and weld that to the bumper and then drill my own holes?
although drilling 6mm plate may tax my drilling equipment somewhat.
the other odd thing is that it also has 2 fairlead slots as well,
any help would be welcome

any pics of the bumper you have got ???

after a good look through youtube and found the oz 4wd tv videos it seems the winch is installed on its side and the bottowm is not used.
i am assuming i can turn the casing on the winch through 90deg and make the clutch lever sit on the top instead of the side?

the good news,
our 2 new winches arived today
all i now have to do is make the bumper mounts and fit it to the bumper, wire it up and hey presto
the bad news
it is going to rain all weekend
and my son wants me to fit his winch to his sj first instead
