Re: Starting
The auto choke is activated with thermowax, so Im pretty sure you don't need to press the throttle.
Its not gonna hurt it though

Re: Starting
No a 410 starter won't fit the flywheel is further away from the mounting face on an F series engine.
I tried to make one fit a while back and failed

Re: Starting
You can refurb them but not sure exactly how as I usually just chuck mitsi and bosch ones in the bin
Some spare parts for mitsi ones here (make sure you check the model number)
http://www.woodauto.com/Unit.aspx?Man=M ... f=M3T38981
and here

Bear in mind though you can get a brand new one for £80

Re: Starting
On those pages I liked to you, you can buy the whole starter or just the bits
Just be advised these are not really suitable for 1.6 conversions

Re: Starting
The couple I've looked at with sticky starters has been nothing more than rust in the solenoid. A strip down, fine emery paper and some WD40 sorted them.
