Door trim fasteners

Has anyone come up with a better way to attach the rear door trim other than buying new fasteners that seem to break every time you touch them?

Self tappers, same as those used in some of the dash panels. Thick stubby ones.

I drilled the door and fitted captivated* m6 nuts, I then secured the panel using stainless countersunk Allen cap screws
*sometimes called caged

I've just had to break off most of mine too, as the inside of the door handle has broken, so I'm also grateful for these replies. Cheers. Off to fleabay now to look for a new handle.
