I very much doubt it...bought a Vit clutch cable the other day and it was identical to an SJ one. Think Suzuki try to save money as much as possible, so any cable should fit.
If it ticks over...leave it

As all the engines and gearboxes on them are the same throughout production i imagine all clutch cables are the same.

deffo check the clutch plate is the right way around. Also the clutch springs could be shot if its and old clutch as they tend to make nice noises when there loose, also check the pressure plate springs for any loose ones aswell.

Sounds like the noise is the gearbox input shaft bearing. When you adjust it all the way one way and the noise goes away you have put so much tension on the cable you have effectively got the pedal down and the input shaft stops spinning (hence no gears) and when you have it the other way you get gears as it is working correctly but your input shaft spins and makes a racket.

Hope that makes sense!

What sort of a racket?

A rough droning noise or stuff grinding and hitting stuff that it shouldn't be?
