fitting 31s advice welcomed

Post by andyrew » Fri Jun 28, 2013 12:56 pm

hey guys

the sami is stripped of its front axle bits at the moment.

its on 3 inch lift springs with 7jj offset rims, with the bumper mounts cut off.
standard arches at the moment

is it worth moving the axle forwards a bit? maybe 20mm just to clear the bulkhead more? ill flatten the lip of on the bulkhead.

also maybe thinking a small prop spacer wouldn't go a miss may 15mm.

any input is appreciated :doublethumbs:

Id still cut the bulkhead back a bit. Ive got 31's on mine and they catch a little on full look when the spring is under compression. But if you move the axle foward you might get away with it.

Mine used to be 2 inch lift with bulkhead folded over and no problems. Probably depends on the tyres actual size.

Don't you run shackle reverse though? With SR the tyre will move towards the bulkhead under compression but with the normal set up I.e. shackle upfront the tyre moves away from the bulkhead under compression giving you more clearance. This is one of the reasons I don't like shackle reverse on a standard Wheelbase SJ.

I would move the axle 20-25mm forward anyway, improves the approach angle ;)

Will maximise bulkhead clearance, you'll deffo need to trim the bumper mounts down though.

Cool. Bumper mounts are gone now
going to trim the standard bumper right down. And
Possibly get my bolt on recovery points on.
