More gearbox problems

Post by ferris » Mon Jul 01, 2013 10:04 pm

I'm not sure my new gear box is in the best condition. It makes quite alot of noise. Not whinning, just sounds like you can hear the bearings spinning really loudly when you take your foot off the accelarator. So i drained the oil out earlier cause the drain bolt was leaking slightly, and there was alot of fine metal filings stuck to the magnetic drain plug.

So iv put some new oil in it again and hopefully it will be ok for the weekend.

Ha ha, real unlucky bud. You gonna rebuild / refurb a one for it?

Is it making noise in all gears, accelerating, decelerating?

Mine rattles its tits out in fourth. It'll be going back to the place that refurbed it as it has a years warranty.

I'm not impressed with their work. Be lucky if its done 2000miles. Oil seals have gone and bearings are shagged.

If i new more about gearboxes id rebuild a spare myself for it.

Yeah its pretty annoying, but i suppose thats the chance you take putting in a second hand gearbox.

I might have to get my old one reconditioned. Not looking forward to changing them over again though.

Gear box swaps a doddle. I had a spare "refurbed" its about £300 round my way to get a one done.

I may see if any of my spares are useable, swap them round while i send this one back to be sorted. Or i may just take it off the road for a week or two while they do it.

If you take it somewhere make sure its somewhere recommended.

I need to get a gearbox rebuilt at some point... its definitely the weak link in my transmission right now!
(Apart from the jammed up front diff of course)

Theres a place near here which has a good rep called Bexhill Gearboxes so I might eventually cough up the money and get it rebuilt

Ha ha, i opened a box up a while back, looked inside. Bolted it back together and sent it for refurb. Too many little bits and pieces for my liking.
