You don't really need to add funds to the account, when I pay for things using paypal, the money comes out of my account as I pay, like a regular transaction. The only time I have ever had money in my account was after selling something and taking payment via paypal.

As far as i know you can't transfer money into it. Like twiss says paypal just debits it from your chosen bank account.

Yeah you can put money into it and withdraw it still from any old atm. My father had to put some money into his paypal acount to put a deposit on the trailer. Paypal fees are interesting!

so I added my bank account number, and they only needed my bank account number, so how can they debit my account? In theory I could put your account number in, and you would be paying for my stuff

You don't want to add an account. There is an option to add payment cards instead.
I would post some screenshots but I'm on my phone at the minute
I think its is the profile/account settings rather than the add funds bit
it will use the long card number

They do some checks before they "authorise" your account. They used to put a small deposit into your account, the details of which would then be used as a sort of "pin number" to make sure your account was actually *YOUR* account (because you need proper access to the bank statements to see the transaction details) before they let you use the account.
I have no idea if that's changed, but it's more security than most bank transfers have - they generally rely on "security through obscurity".
With your account number, sort code and the name on your account, a bank worker could empty your account any time he/she liked. Not even a worker for YOUR bank - ANY bank. Working for your bank just takes the guesswork out of working out how much is in your account.
Scary, but true.

If you're doing it right there will be no more details checked that buying from any other website
Just checked and you should go to
My Account > My Profile > My Money
Then you should be able to add a credit/debit card in there
Like I say, Ive been using paypal for years and they don't have my bank account info, just card details
