Fitting my SU today but noticed it doesnt have a vac advance pipe. I got the SU as a pair, and the wrong one of the pair (the one not fitted) has the vac advance....any clues?

Darrel those plates put the vac takeoff on the wrong side of the butterfly for an SJs vac advance set up.
Tim just pull the pipe out carefully with some pliers and a bit of a twist. Then find a drill bit the same size as the hole and drill one in the same position as it is on the other carb.
I then put a dab of loctite on and push the pipe in for a good seal.
Either that or you could swap the throttle linkages etc. off the carb with no vac take off and fit them on the one with it.

cheers Scottie! the hole for vac advance on the other su looks like it goes all the way through into the mid chamber bit (the bit with the throttle flap), but its a tiny 1mm hole, do I just drill all the way through with the larger bit, or drill a little 1mm hole then a slightly larger one on top to hold the pipe?

The work well on minis!!! I was looking for something like that for ages that would fit inbetween the carb and air hose/box connector... but apparently it wont work correctly if its on the wrong side of the piston :(

Did you look the other side of the butterfly, the hole is usually the same size all the way through, make sure you clean out all the aluminium filings after you have done it though.
