Sounds like the starter solenoid is lazy And sstaying engaged
Used to get it on my old skoda.

Yeah that's the starter. Try bump starting it see if it goes away.

Yeah, as above. Your starter is not disengaging properly after the engine starts.

Probably. It could be the return spring if it's got one.

Try a strip an clean. May just be full of crud.
Failing that i've found a few of my local independant auto electrics places to be very reasonable on pice for repair / refurb of parts.
May be worth a look

Deffo starter motor. Strip it down and rebuild. The brushes are really fiddly I found rebuild the bushes around a bit of pipe and slide them down back in otherwise you will be there for ages!!

I think that is probably the drive gear spinning on the starter shaft...
the drive gear I believe is only supposed to spin around one way (so it can free wheel while disengaging, once the engine is started)
I would take the starter motor off and see if you can push the gear round both ways by hand/finger.
Otherwise I would have a spare starter ready in case! Mine was making that noise, and now it's dead!

All sorted now. Stripped it down greased every thing up and the noise has gone . Cheers guys.
