cutting out

Hi Folks.
I have an Sj 413. That cuts out as soon as you take your foot off the accelerator even when warm. It is currently fitted with a standard Aisin carb. I have an SU HS2 carb. that I was thinking of rebuilding, creating an adapter plate and fitting it. Is this a good idea or is there an easy fix for the Aisin carb, or would the forum suggest a different carburettor.

Hif44 is the common carb to use on the 1300.
The standard carbs suffer with auto choke and auto idle up issues.
Do you know if the auto choke is operating correctly?

Yep Dan's right the 1300 carbs tend to be a bit rubbish!!!
Take the plenum chamber (black box bit) off the top of the carb and gradually warm the engine up from cold. If the auto-choke it working, the topmost butterfly valve should open up as the temperature rises

The HS2 is, I *think* - a 1.25 inch carb, which wouldn't be any good for a 1300, unless you went dual carbs. Really you need a 1.75 inch (HS6 or, like most of us do, HIF44).
I'm not sure that the HS series is any good for an offroader - the HIF's have float bowls that make them good for preventing carb starving. Or so I'm told!

Is the fuel stop solenoid on the carb wired up and working? Check that the wires haven't broken etc.

The Janspeed conversion on my old 410 had a remote fuel bowl and had no problems off-road.
