Gearbox leek

Post by ferris » Fri Jul 31, 2009 6:02 pm

Hi guys, more problems im afraid.

My gearbox sounds like a bag of nails at the moment. So i had a little look at it, and it appears to be leaking fluid. I followed the leak back and it looks like it all came out the top where the gear stick attaches to it. Does anyone know why this might of happened?

I was told it had a new gear box not to long ago, but not sure if it was the right one cause it looks like its had piece cut off of it to make it fit

Also how do i refill the gear box and what is the best stuff to use?

ep90

1.2L i think.

Shouldnt go as high as the stick. The filling bolt is on the drivers side. facing forwards.

Hope this helps

Well i checked it out earlier, still not sure where it is coming from but there is fluid all around that part of the gear box. But i took the filler nut out, to top it up and there was already loads in there. So im none the wiser, but il just see how it go's.

Thank for your help.

ref the filler,, when you unscrewed it,, did fluid/oil just trickle out, or did it pour out??. reason being, if it was overfilled then it can blow seals or be pushed out the breather as oil vapour.

Yeah you may be on to something. It poured out pretty quick, but i was on a bit of a slope. Should i drain it to the same level as the filler nut?

If it was overfilled it would have rushed out, gone down your arm into your armpit and then down you back/stomach

Park it flat. Open the filler cap, take the gear stick out, fill it up until the oil comes out the "propper" fillter cap.

While the stick is out, put grease on the selector, and on the ball, and a smeer on the sleave. Pop it back in and hey presto.

Overfilling and blocked breathers can cause damage to seals.

I should know, i killed my first engine with a blocked of breather.
