Hi all, I changed my starter today, old 1 had 2 spade connectors on solenoid new 1 has only 1? Any ideas what the other connector is for, it comes from the alternator wiring. Sj starts ok and runs tho.

The 410 has the black/yellow from the ignition switch to the solenoid but also a connection from the solenoid direct to the coil positive. This supplies 12v to the coil when cranking over.
Hope this is what your referring too.

So can i just connect the cable to the battery terminal on the solenoid? As there's no other spade connector on the solenoid.

Yes, but it needs to go on the large terminal on the solenoid (the one going into the side of the motor, only powered when cranking)
You could use a large ring terminal.
Could you not reuse the old starters connection or is that knackered.

Looking at the pic you posted is it the bolted terminal or the left spade as I don't have the right spade, sorry I'm not all that clued up on these electrics

You need to connect the wire going to the coil here.
Your old one had a spade terminal, but a ring terminal would do.

Arh,I get you now, yes it's an exposed short cable which goes into motor, yes I will have a look at old starter to see if I can prise off the spade or see if I can buy a circular spade connector, thanks very much for your help, just one more question tho, it starts and runs as it is now so what does this connection do when I connect it?

Basically just gives the coil a boost on starting to help get it going. (bigger spark I guess)
That's it really, as you found out it may well start fine without it.
