Evening all,

As some of you may know I've got a sj 413 kja which normally would be a normal pickup, but I've built a rear bed that hydraulicly tips, but as this is different to the original I trying to find out if it needs to be checked or approved or any thing like that, but, I can't make head nor tail of any of the info on their website,

Any one got any advice, info that could help,

Heads starting to hurt, trying to decifer what the hell they mean.

:er:

Have you extended or widened the chassis at all or have u juat added braces
if its just the case of adding bits to the chassis and the original chassis is as was
it doesnt need cheaking out

Still looks like a kja, just has a tipper bed! I wouldn't bother with vosa/dvla as it's body type hasn't changed. just inform your insurance company.

As long as your insurance are notified and the chassis hasn't been structurely altered I wouldn't bother with SVA / DVLA

You only need a vehicle identity check ("VIC" test, colloquially known as the "8-point check") if the vehicle has been radically altered.

What "Radically altered" means is not defined by any document I have ever seen on the subject, and believe me, I've looked!

I considered rebodying my SJ for a while, I looked very deeply into the subject, and if your MOT man doesn't mention the alterations, then it seems that you have not "radically altered" it.

This is more of an observation than a hard and fast rule.

Sounds good to me,

All I've done to the chassis is -

= replaced the rotten crossmember with a much stronger arrangment which now takes the winch

= added a beam across the chassis to take the hydraulic ram

= put a plate across the front of the cassis to bolt a winch bumper to

= rear bed now only has 2 big pivots welded to the chassis, and a big bolt to connect the ram, instead of 4 small bolts

I've just just made it stronger,

So you think just a mot will be fine.?

Removing a crossmember is a big no, but you replaced it so you should be fine.

MOT it and be happy. If the MOT man wants it checked by VOSA, I'll be *really* surprised!!!

Oh , had my log book back as I sent it in to have the engine spec & numbers changed and I've got to have it independently checked and signed off by a garage and send it back to some lady.
