Hi all, I've had some major problems with my SJ and just want to drive it now! However I fear the timing is way out because I have just replaced the dizzy and now when I accelerate it bogs down and cuts. I'm not sure on how to check the timing with a strobe though, can anyone link me to something or provide me with some quick tips/instructions? Thankyou!

I put a bit of tipex on the fly wheel at 8°btdc so you can see it through the inspection gap on the bell housing, then depending on your timing gun I think most connect to pos and neg of the battery, and have a third cable that hooks up to the HT lead of cylinder 1, then when your engine is going hold the timing light to the flywheel and as it flash you will see the tipexed mark, then twist the dizzy till the tipex aligns with the little notch on the bell housing .

I know a lot of people just do it by ear tbh, but I'm a timing gun person too. I'm assuming it all starts and your fine tuning it?

I'm pretty sure that you need to block off the vacuum advance before you set the timing.
