Headlining Removal in a Tin top.
Hi guys,
I'm currently stripping down a 410 van. How to I remove the headlining without damaging it? I want to take it out so I can knock a dent out of the roof and to replace the fabric. So keeping it in one piece would be useful. I've already removed the bracket that runs across the middle of the roof.

There's three ways of doing things,
1) The Right Way,

i dont know if you can remove it without ripping it or seperating the vinyl from the foam, when i done mine i just ripped it all out and then washed it over with some washing up liquid and warm water
then glued some carpet underlay to the roof, then put 3mm ply up and glued van mat to that, it looks clean and tidy and deadens alot of the noise...

Just rip it out, that's my plan. I'm just gonna get acoustic carpet / foam stuff and glue it back on.

Id be inclined to cut across where the roof support goes across and remove it in

Is behind the bar.
I never refitted the bar in mine after I done my headliner tho

Er. My roof lining was hanging down and generally minging. I ripped it down and removed the foam backing. I decided to glue up some acoustic liner, but after getting more glue on me than the roof I thought sod it and just painted it with underseal. It stank for weeks , silly bugger !!

My eventual plan is to try and get the SJ to be as quiet as possible, so I'm going to line the floor, roof and the removable panels on the sides in the back with acoustic mating.

Haha I did that a few times, but I couldn't hear the radio. One of the locomotives at work is nicknamed "Uproar" and it's mandatory to wear hearing protection. The cab is basically a tin box bolted to the to of the gearbox and part of the engine. It gets to about 92dB when going full pelt!Ladaman wrote:Just get some ear defenders.
