Getting To The Timing Belt
Me again folks, plugging away here but have hit another snag. I'm trying to fit a new timing but can't shift the sodding cooling fan spacer, it's well and truly seized on. Anyone got any tips for getting it off. Can't get any tools behind it to prize it off either. Thanks is advance I seriously don't know what I would do without with forum

Hit it with a rubber mallet

I carefully tapped it from left to right to up to down ect with a rubber hammer and eventually it came free.

Thanks chaps, worked a treat I just didn't want to go hitting it and damage something. But like everything with this project nothing is straight forward, now I have access to the timing belt, I noticed that it is 180 degrees out I've had the engine running sweet before so I don't know why this is. The distributer cap is on right, TDC is correct. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It can be 180° out the firing order just has to be different, 4213. Instead of 1342. You should find that at your tdc the dizzy should be firing cylinder 4.

So the arrows on the timing belt cover and the top sprocket don't have to correspond ? It's for a 81 SJ410

The crank goes round twice compared to the cam, so it's just on the wrong stroke.
As long as nothing moves when you change the belt, all will be fine.

Ah cushty, that's makes sense. So one more full turn and I should be fine ? Also if that is the case I'll be one tooth out, will one tooth out make much affect to the running of the engine ? If so how easy/difficult to alter the timing ? Thanks
