Grand Vitara squeaking rear brake help please.

Hi there.
My 2001 Grand Vitara has developed what I can only describe as a creaking squeak......
It doesn't appear to happen for the full rotation of the wheel and goes when I gather speed. I was thinking maybe a slightly binding or worn brake, but am not very familiar with drum brakes.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Many Thanks,
Duncan

Probably worn shoes, could be as simple as some dirt in them or a stiff mechanism.
No real way to tell without stripping it down.

Brilliant, Thankyou for your reply. Would your suggestions result in the noise being present even when the brakes are not applied... It seems to go when I apply the brakes I have noticed today.

It could just be as simple as the shoes moving around slightly and rubbing the back plate.

Have you owned the Vit long? Might be worth changing the shoes.

I've had it since October 13. Not really had much dealing with drum brakes, are they simple enough to take apart and replace the shoes?

Dead easy on an SJ / vit. Can't imagine a GV being any more difficult.
