Just because there is no oil on the dipstick, doesn't mean there's no oil left between the 2 marks on the dipstick is about a litre of oil so if its off the bottom you might've only used 1.5l? it could be the timing whats out or maybe the dizzy cap because if it was only a spark plug that had gone it would still start but run rough.

Just make sure that the cam pulley has the same style teeth as the crank pulley, there's two types available flat and round teeth. change the cam pulley to match whatever's on the crank if it is different. found this out the hard way when i fitted the 1.3 back in and all the pullies and the alterna...
