I think the colour code is 38b, charcoal gray metallic. Looks the same as my 89 hardtop. There should be a small vin plate in drivers side footwell with it stamped on there mate.

If it is the cv's then you should still be hearing the noise with the hubs locked with it in 2wd. With the hubs locked its turning the half shafts and cv's as the wheel moves. But if you have the shaft out you should be able to feel it with your hands, as jordi said it would feel notchy/bind up. Hav...
