Re: Help Please

I would only buy if its in and runningb, that way you could transfer it all to yours. Early vitaras were 1.6 8v carb, all sj413s and most samurais are 1.3 8v carb. Early vitaras have the better diff ratios, use the link to the diff calculators Jordi posted earlier, to find ths closest one to standar...

Re: Help Please

Yes of course, it will be very under powered though. Get yourself on the look out for either a 1.3 or 1.6 8v carb engine or a pair of vitara fromt diffs. Theres how to guides on the main page of this forum for both.

Re: Help Please

The leaf springs were originally under the axles, the previous owner has fitted them on top of the axle which creates around 4 to 5 inches of lift.
The engine swap is alot easier than you would think.
Theres loads of other not so hard mods which help it as an offroader and an onroader

Re: Help Please

At a guess id say it was a 410 to start with, then someones added the samurai axles while doing the spoa conversion.
Its abit of a mis match but now you know whats what it will make a good easy project into something awesome

Re: Help Please

If its a 5 speed, a 1.6 engine swap wont be too hard or costly. To be honest, if it turns out they're 410 axles which im certain theyre not, then its harder changing to samurai axles than it is to change engine. Samurai axles on an sj certainly help with stability and flex, so there might be a silve...

Re: Help Please

Its a 410 engine, the axles look like samurai axles and regardless what diff you have (3.7 or 3.9) it will be very sluggish. Your next step is vitara 5.1 ring and pinions or an engine swap. Neither are as straight forward as a straight swap but both relatively easy

Re: Help Please

From where you circled in red i think it is, so that would mean samurai axles. Send a pic of engine

Re: Help Please

Its an sj, bit hard to see but from them pics the axles look like sj axles. Which means you should have 3.9 or 4.1? diffs. Both better than the samurais 3.7. Samurais are sj's too but have wider axles and a different front end and where the leaf springs mount arent under the chassis like yours are. ...

Re: Help Please

Actually, scrap that. It looks like yours is an sj just with a samurai front end! It could well be a 1.0 and have samurai axles and still have the samurai gearing which will make it awful. You would need 5.1 diffs from a mk1 vitara front and change your ring and pinions to get it back to near standa...

Re: Help Please

Samurais didnt come with that handbrake setup so its definitely been changed. All 4 wheels off the ground, put in 4wd low, mark the prop from gearbox to transfer box and turn the drum 1 revolution. The small prop will turn either 2.25 turns or 2.5 turns. 2.5 is 410 and better for the ratios. Its def...
