Re: Front Brake refurb (2005 GV)

The weather has been 'on and off' and have had to prioritise the nice days to garden jobs, but I did manage an hour on the brakes at the weekend. Been a mixture of good and bad - the Apec Discs look good but was surprised that the Apec Red Pads were 'directional' with no proper fitting instructions i...

Re: After market alloys

Hi George Both our cars (2005 GV and 2008 Sportage) have 16'' wheels - I would not dream of changing them because they give that extra protection against our wonderful potholed roads - we do still try to avoid the worst of them - sometimes 'slaloming' along the road - but obviously one cannot always...

Re: Front Brake refurb (2005 GV)

Front Brake refurb (2005 GV)

I put this here because it reads over to other models esp Jimny etc We have a low mileage Grand Vitara 1600 (55k) which passed mot the other week with only 1 minor advisory. But I had had the front wheels off to clean up the pad carriers etc and noted that all the components were very corroded, one o...

Re: After market alloys

Hi George I would say you are better off staying with the 17'' wheels, because I assume (rightly or wrongly) you would end up with lower profile 'rubber band' tyres with 19'' wheels ? Higher profile tyres cope better with potholed/uneven road surfaces and the occasional off road excursion and also lo...

Re: Source for front caliper banjo bolts ?

The various parts have been trickling in over the last 3 days so I will start my front brake 'refresh' as soon as (1) I catch up with other domestic outside jobs and (2) we get a few days of consistent dry weather. The weather up here has been wet wet wet with just an occasional dry day popping up so...

Re: Source for front caliper banjo bolts ?

OK have given up trying to source some caliper brackets for the GV - they seem to be available for later models but not ours LOL So I have ordered all the basic parts - Apec Discs and Pads,Apec O/S flexy hose,Blue Print N/S flexy hose - all from https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_ssn=carpartsinmotio...

Re: Source for front caliper banjo bolts ?

On the occasional dry day - I manage to get some car jobs done LOL I jacked up the N/S yesterday to have a close look at the front brake parts - and yes much the same as the O/S - all parts extremely corroded inc the slide pins (I managed to free off the upper slider again). Not a surprise really as...
