Re: SJ 410 Engine, Help Please

I would say that sounds good, you still got that bit of squeak to finish off, but I would have no hesitation to do a bit of a trip with confidence. I would get legal and some fuel (if the gauge is still not working) and take it for a 'lockdown' trip out. All the best with the MOT.

Re: SJ 410 Engine, Help Please

If the SJ has been standing for sometime, been jet washed, short runs only it is probably a build up of condensation, if temperature and water level are staying the same. Once warmed up beads of water on dipstick could indicate a head gasket problem. Has the oil been changed since you acquired the S...

Re: SJ 410 Engine, Help Please

I presume that the SJ had been running for a little while before you took the video, the smoke looks whiteish which could be condensation in the exhaust before the whole system is heated through. If it is burning oil you should probably compression test each cylinder to see if you have a low reading...

Re: LJ 80 reconstruction

Looks excellent. Was it fun to drive? To be honest, I was surprised how well she went. Worried about something going wrong, forgotten to tighten a bolt or missed a cable connection. The most eventful item was the brake low fluid level light (faulty) and knocking on the rear end. Which turned out to...

Re: SJ 410 Engine, Help Please

Sounds like alternator bearings. You could try slackening off the tension completely so it would not drive the alternator and see if the squeal disappears.
Smoking exhaust? how long has the vehicle been standing before it came to you, could be sticking piston rings. How many miles has it done?

Re: LJ 80 reconstruction

It is no good, I just had to take the LJ out on her maiden voyage the weather was just too nice.

So we went and picked up some 'fuel', in fact it was such a nice day we went and picked up some more.

Re: Few work photos

Just an observation. How come you have the smallest 4x4 in the UK and yet drive the largest (8 axle) trailer in the UK. Shouldn't you be on 'Outback Truckers". What is that under the blue tarp, aero engine?

Re: LJ 80 reconstruction

That might well be the option I have to follow.

At the moment I have the connection up the steering column, finishing with a wire which when touched to earth sounds the horn. I also have the horn push cover but none of the 'guts' and looking at the parts manual there are a lot of 'guts'.

Re: LJ 80 reconstruction

It was the switch. I should have taken a photo of the guts of the switch, but having dismantled it,
cleaned up the green contacts, I have a photo of the end result.

I am getting to the end of my electrical mystery tour.

I now need to find the guts of a horn push.

It is a bit more than a gasket, as the attached image shows, (not your engine)

You will need it as the starter motor bolts through it etc.
