I'm going to sound silly here, but what about a 300TDi/TD5 Landie Diesel? Are they too big? Or will they tear the diffs and transfer box apart?

My mothers Discovery 300TDi produces a knock under braking and acceleration also. It appears to be coming from Nearside (passenger) front suspension. This may not help as Sj's are totally different, and if you're sure it's transmission, then this is irrelivant. However, possible check for loose bolt...

I had considered looking into LPG on a Zook for when I eventually get one. My stepdad's 3.9 V8 Discovery is on LPG, and costs less to run than Mum's 2.5 TDi version of the same vehicle, because LPG is so cheap.
