Don't know anything about the temp gauge, but fans should always suck air through the rad if mounted behind, blow through the rad if mounted in front - basically just follow the natural path of air that flows through the vehicle when it's moving.

Some fans are designed to suck, some are designed to blow you'll have to see what sort of fan it is to see what it should do. As for the gauge, if it's an aftermarket gauge, you'll need the matching sender for the gauge, has it ever worked?

Check the fan blades are actually the right way around to suck air in, otherwise they will be pretty useless spinning around.

No, sounds correct. I assume this sender replaced the original one.
